1563 Candidates to Retake NEET Exam Today Amid Controversy and Leadership Change at NTA

New Delhi, June 23, 2024 – In a move to address recent irregularities, 1563 candidates are set to retake the NEET exam today. These candidates have been awarded grace marks due to issues in the previous exam, following allegations of paper leaks and widespread controversy.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has been under intense scrutiny over the past two months due to significant irregularities in two of its major examinations: NEET-UG and UGC-NET. These controversies culminated in the sacking of NTA Director Subodh Singh by the Central Government.

The Central Government has appointed IAS officer Pradeep Singh Kharola as the new Director of NTA. Kharola, known for his administrative acumen, is expected to restore integrity and efficiency within the agency.

“The decision to allow 1563 candidates to retake the NEET exam is a necessary step to ensure fairness and transparency,” stated an NTA spokesperson. “We are committed to maintaining the highest standards in our examination processes.”

The NTA has faced backlash from students, parents, and educational institutions due to the recent controversies. The appointment of Pradeep Singh Kharola is seen as a decisive move to overhaul the agency’s operations and rebuild trust.

The Ministry of Education has expressed confidence in Kharola’s leadership, emphasizing the government’s commitment to upholding the credibility of national examinations and safeguarding the interests of students.

As the 1563 candidates are going to retake their NEET exams, a section of the students emphasizing on the conduct of the whole NEET exam, counselling of which is going on.

Meanwhile the NEET-PG examination which was scheduled to be held on June 23, today has been postponed and a fresh date will be announced at the earliest, the health ministry said on Saturday. The exam is postponed as a precautionary measure.
