20,000 people feared dead in Libyan floods: Mayor Abdulmenam al-Ghaithi

At least 20,000 people feared dead in Libyan floods. Libyan city Derna’s Mayor Abdulmenam al-Ghaithi said that the death toll due to flooding could reach up to 20,000 based on the extent of the area of the city destroyed. Over 5,300 people died after two dam bursts flooded Derna. World Meteorological Organization said that casualties could’ve been avoided if Libya had a functional weather service able to issue warnings.
