DC Samba Chairs District-Level NCORD Committee Meeting

In a concerted effort to combat the growing drug menace and its associated challenges in the district, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Samba, Abhishek Sharma, chaired a District Level Committee meeting of the NCORD (Narcotics Coordination) at the Conference Hall in Samba today.

The meeting extensively reviewed the action taken report on the prevention of drug abuse and narcotics trade, assessing the implementation measures aimed at eradicating this menace from the district.

DC Abhishek Sharma emphasized the installation of signage in drug-free panchayats, lodging FIRs against drug peddlers in hotspot areas, attaching properties of drug peddlers, and making red entries in revenue records. He also underscored taking strict action against government employees involved in drug peddling activities and implementing a 100% computerized billing system at all shops in the district.

The DC directed the Principals of colleges and the District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO) to engage students in orientation programs, followed by internships in various departments. This initiative aims to equip students with basic skills such as plumbing, electrical work, and automobile maintenance while acquainting them with government schemes. He also stressed the importance of enrolling children residing in slums in educational institutions.

Furthermore, DC Sharma highlighted the need to publicize the first-ever national toll-free narcotics helpline, MANAS (Madak Padarth Nishedh Asuchna Kendra) at number 1933. This helpline allows residents to report drug-related activities anonymously, with assurances that the identity of informants will be kept confidential and that they will be rewarded for providing authentic information.

In addition, the DC directed all employees to participate in the Swachhta Pakhwada, commencing from 1st August, and a plantation drive in honor of martyrs.

The meeting saw the participation of SSP Samba, Vinay Sharma; PO ICDS; representatives from BSF; college principals; CEO; and other district and sectoral officers.
