Election Bugle and BJP’s Search for New Faces: A Key Topic

As you all know, the election bugle has been sounded, and all parties are in search of good candidates. In the meantime, it has come to light that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is also on the lookout for new, young, and talented faces who can perform well in these elections and lead the party to victory.

When we talk about new faces, the name of Zorawar Singh Jamwal stands out prominently, and he could be a strong candidate for the BJP from Jammu West in these elections.

Zorawar Singh Jamwal is a well-known figure, recognized for his work against drug addiction. Since 2014, he has been working tirelessly to raise awareness about drugs, possibly more than anyone else. Notably, he has saved many young lives from the clutches of drugs and has sent hundreds of youth, who were already addicted, to rehabilitation centers in Punjab or Himachal. He has urged people to keep an eye on their children and has offered the assistance of Team Jammu in getting addicted youths to rehabilitation centers. The main objective of “Team Jammu,” established by him, was to rescue as many youths as possible from drug addiction. He has not shied away from speaking out against drug dealers and even certain corrupt officials within the administration, despite the risks involved.

Recognizing Zorawar Singh Jamwal’s contribution to the fight against drugs, he was appointed as an ex-officio member when the state-level committee against drugs was formed in 2017. This committee was chaired by the Chief Secretary of Jammu & Kashmir, with the IGP Crime and other important departments as members. His appointment was a significant achievement, a recognition of his contributions by the state government. Additionally, the formation of the “Anti-Narcotics Committee” was also a result of his persistent efforts. The term “Narco Terrorism,” now widely used by the Jammu & Kashmir Police and others, was coined by him. He was the one who highlighted that the spread of drugs in our state was a Pakistan-sponsored operation working in the same manner as terrorism.

Moreover, Zorawar Singh Jamwal’s contributions extend beyond this. When a landslide occurred in Saddar Panjar Tehsil Mongri, District Udhampur, resulting in the disappearance of an entire village, he and Team Jammu were among the first to provide aid, arranging tents, blankets, clothes, and other essentials for the victims. He has also organized large-scale camps to distribute blankets and clothing in remote and hilly areas during winter, including Rajgarh, Ramban, and Machhedi in Kathua district, among other places. He has encouraged people to donate clothes and blankets that are no longer needed for their children to Team Jammu for this cause.

Zorawar Singh Jamwal’s dedication to honoring the country’s martyrs is also well-known. He has consistently participated in and organized programs to pay tribute to the martyrs. Whenever there is an event to honor martyrs, he makes it a point to attend. He has also worked tirelessly to have schools in Jammu & Kashmir named after martyrs. Recently, a school in Shamachak was named after Shaheed Uday Man Singh, another of his achievements.

In addition to this, he has also been involved in various social programs. His struggle to give the Dogri language its rightful place is well-known. He has inspired people to ensure that even children from well-off families speak Dogri, and he himself often speaks in Dogri at social programs and other events. He has promoted Dogri songs, poems, and emerging writers, encouraging them to keep the language alive. He has organized several programs to promote the Dogri language and secure its rightful place.

If we look at other significant achievements, it was Zorawar Singh Jamwal who first initiated the “Tiranga Rally” in Jammu, which has now become a symbol of pride for parties like the BJP. He made relentless efforts over the years to have September 23, the birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh, declared a public holiday, and his contribution to achieving this cannot be denied.

Furthermore, if we consider his intellectual background, Zorawar Singh Jamwal has been an excellent journalist. He began his journalism career with Kashmir Times and went on to work with Hindustan Times, Indian Express, and other national newspapers. His journey has been thrilling and full of challenges, during which he raised awareness about the problems facing our state and the issues of the people, bringing them to the attention of the administration.

In every sense, Zorawar Singh Jamwal possesses all the qualities needed to be a candidate for a party like BJP. Given the speculation surrounding him, people are hopeful that he will be fielded as the MLA candidate from Jammu West. We too urge the BJP to bring forth such deserving candidates who can give a new direction to our society and Jammu & Kashmir.
