Hardeep Singh Puri Criticizes Arvind Kejriwal’s Resignation Statement, Slams Rahul Gandhi’s Remarks on Sikh Community

Washington, DC (17th September 2024) – Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, during a press interaction with ANI, strongly reacted to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s statement regarding his potential resignation. Puri questioned the timing and intent of Kejriwal’s remarks, saying, “If you want to resign, do it…don’t claim that you are doing something special.” He pointed out that Kejriwal, who has been entangled in a serious corruption case, was incarcerated for 145 days but did not consider resignation during that time. Puri added, “As per the bail conditions of the Supreme Court, he can’t go to his office or sign a file…he will still have to answer.”

Puri also invoked Kejriwal’s political journey, highlighting his protests against Congress alongside Anna Hazare, only to later ally with the same party. This, he suggested, raises questions about the CM’s consistency and political integrity.

In a separate statement, Puri also addressed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s recent comments about the Sikh community. He expressed astonishment at Gandhi’s remarks, calling them an attempt to

“foment a divisive narrative” and create insecurity within the Sikh community. Puri further compared Gandhi’s mindset to that of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, saying, “It is a mindset of that kind – either I get what I want, or I will destroy it.”

Referring to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, Puri emphasized that the Sikh community faced its greatest existential threat during that period. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for addressing longstanding grievances and improving the socio-political landscape for Sikhs. “Sikhs have never had it so good,”

Puri remarked, dismissing Gandhi’s narrative that Sikhs are treated as second-class citizens in India.

The Union Minister’s sharp critique is an answer to Rahul Gandhi narrative on Sikhs.
