3rd J&K UT South Kashmir Volleyball Championship Inaugurated in Bijbehara Anantnag by Minister Satish Sharma
October 23, 2024 – Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Youth Services & Sports, Transport, IT, Science & Technology, and ARI & Trainings, Satish Sharma, inaugurated the 3rd J&K UT South Kashmir Volleyball Championship at the Indoor Stadium in Bijbehara. The event took place in the presence of MLA Bijbehara, Dr. Bashir Ahmad Shah Veeri, and other senior officials, including the Director General Youth Services & Sports and the Secretary of the J&K Sports Council.The championship, organized by the Volleyball Association of J&K in collaboration with the JK Sports Council, aims to promote sports culture and physical fitness among the youth of South Kashmir. Speaking at the inauguration, Satish Sharma reaffirmed the government’s commitment to identifying and nurturing young sports talent, especially in rural areas.He highlighted the importance of grassroots sports development in fostering a culture of fitness and discipline among the youth, calling sports a powerful tool to combat drug addiction.In a gesture to encourage and reward local talent, the Minister personally handed Rs 20,000 to Muqaddas Muskan, an international volleyball player from the region, and Rs 10,000 to Mohammad Shafi, the groundkeeper, recognizing his dedication in maintaining the cricket pitch. Both amounts were paid from the Minister’s first salary.The event reflects the administration’s ongoing efforts to empower youth through sports and promote a healthier lifestyle across the Union Territory.
