Ex-Serviceman Martyred, Two Women Injured in Terror Attack in Kulgam; LG, CM Condemn Heinous Act

Jammu, Feb 3: A brutal terrorist attack in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district claimed the life of an ex-serviceman, while two women, including his wife and cousin, sustained gunshot injuries. The attack took place on Monday in Behibagh village, sending shockwaves across the region.

Officials confirmed that terrorists opened fire on Manzoor Ahmad Wagay, a former soldier, killing him on the spot. His wife and cousin, who were with him at the time, suffered serious injuries and were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha strongly condemned the attack, calling it a “heinous act of terror” and expressing solidarity with the bereaved family. “I strongly condemn the heinous terrorist attack on Manzoor Ahmad Wagay and his family in Kulgam. The entire nation stands with the bereaved family in this hour of grief,” Sinha said in a statement.

Vowing strict action against the perpetrators, he assured that those responsible for the attack would face justice. “I have instructed the officials to provide the best possible treatment to the injured. Praying for their speedy recovery. I assure the people that the perpetrators of this cowardly attack will be punished soon,” the LG stated.

J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also expressed deep sorrow over the incident, offering condolences to the family. “I am deeply saddened by the tragic killing of ex-serviceman Manzoor Ahmad Wagay Sahab in Kulgam. My heartfelt condolences to his family and prayers for the swift recovery of his injured wife and cousin,” he said.

Condemning the violence, the CM emphasized that such acts have no place in society. “This heinous violence must be condemned in the strongest terms. May peace and justice prevail,” he added.

The attack has once again raised concerns about security in the region, prompting authorities to intensify counter-terror operations to track down the assailants. Meanwhile, security forces have launched a search operation in the area to apprehend those responsible for the attack.
