Govt Employee Caught Red-Handed While Accepting Bribe by ACB J&K

Srinagar, Feb 6: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Jammu and Kashmir has arrested a government employee red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹3,000 in Ganderbal district.
According to an official statement, the arrested individual, Mohammad Ashraf Malik, a resident of Shahpora Ganderbal, was working as a Computer Operator in the Rural Development Department, Block Gund. He was caught while demanding and accepting a bribe in exchange for processing a bill related to a work project under the MGNREGA Scheme at Kulmohar Qalwat near Masjid Sharief Chohan Mohalla, Harri Ganwan, Gund, Ganderbal.
The ACB received a written complaint stating that Malik had initially demanded ₹10,000 to upload the necessary documents for the release of pending payments. However, after negotiations, the bribe amount was settled at ₹3,000, to be paid as the first installment.
Upon verifying the allegations, an FIR (No. 03/2025) under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 was registered at ACB Police Station, Srinagar, and an investigation was initiated.
A special trap team was formed, which successfully caught Malik red-handed while receiving the bribe. Following the arrest, all legal formalities were completed, and the accused was taken into custody.
The ACB has assured that further investigations into the case are ongoing.
