Ban Imposed on Storage and Use of Drones in Doda for Two Months

Jammu, Feb 11: The district administration of Doda in Jammu and Kashmir has imposed a ban on the storage, use, and transportation of drones for a period of two months, citing security concerns and the potential misuse of these flying objects by anti-national elements.
According to an order issued by Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Sudershan Kumar, individuals already in possession of drone cameras or similar flying gadgets must deposit them at the nearest police station within a week of the order’s issuance. The decision aims to prevent any threats to vital installations and ensure public safety.
The directive, however, exempts police and other security agencies from the ban. Government departments using drones for mapping, surveys, surveillance in construction works, agriculture, environmental conservation, and disaster management must seek prior permission before operating them. They are also required to inform the local police station and executive magistrate in writing.
“In recent times, incidents have been reported where anti-national elements have used drones to cause damage, injury, and pose security threats. To secure the aerial space, it has become necessary to impose reasonable restrictions on the sale, possession, and use of drones,” the order stated.
The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Doda, has been directed to ensure strict implementation of the order.
