Rajouri Feb 26– In a tense encounter near the Line of Control (LoC), terrorists opened fire on an army vehicle in a forward hamlet close to Phal village in the Sunderbani sector of Rajouri district on Wednesday. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported from this brief firing incident.

According to officials, the assailants, believed to be hiding in the nearby forests, targeted the army vehicle with a few rounds as it passed through an area known as a traditional infiltration route for terrorists. Promptly responding to the attack, army troops returned fire, and reinforcements were dispatched to neutralize the terrorist threat.

In a concerted effort to ensure security in the region, security forces launched a massive cordon and search operation aimed at locating and apprehending the attackers.

In a related development, army personnel engaged in another confrontation during the intervening night between Tuesday and Wednesday. They fired upon observing suspicious movement near the LoC in the Keeri Battal area of the Akhnoor sector.

These incidents come in the wake of a recent meeting between representatives of the Indian and Pakistani armies, where both sides reaffirmed their commitment to uphold the ceasefire agreement established in February 2021.

The situation remains under close monitoring as security forces continue their operations to maintain peace and security along the sensitive border area.
