Habitual Offender Arrested with Sharp-Edged Weapon in Akhnoor

Jammu: In a late-night operation, Akhnoor police apprehended a habitual offender in possession of a sharp-edged weapon during a naka (checkpoint) at Chandiyan near Shamshan Ghat.
According to officials, a police team led by PSI Vijay Thakur was conducting vehicle-checking duty on 16.03 25 when they noticed a pedestrian approaching from TRC towards Akhnoor around 8:45 PM. Upon being signaled to stop, the individual attempted to flee but was swiftly apprehended.
Identified as Rohit Kumar, son of Des Raj, resident of Chak Bhagwana, Tehsil Jourian, Akhnoor, the accused was found carrying a tokka (sharp weapon). When questioned, he failed to provide a valid explanation for possessing the weapon. The police seized the weapon and registered FIR No. 50/2025 under Section 4/25 of the Arms Act at PS Akhnoor. The investigation has been assigned to PSI Sonu Choudhary.
Further inquiries revealed that Rohit Kumar is a habitual offender with previous criminal involvements, including FIR No. 159/2023 of PS Akhnoor. He is also suspected to have links to bovine smuggling activities.
The police have assured that a thorough investigation will be conducted, and strict action will be taken as per the law.
