J&K Labour Department Issues Advisory to Protect Workers Amid Heatwave Alert

Srinagar, April 17, 2025: The Labour Department of Jammu and Kashmir has issued an urgent advisory in response to the ongoing heatwave alert, prioritizing the welfare of workers across the region. Employers are directed to take immediate measures to safeguard workers from extreme heat conditions.

As per the advisory, employers must reschedule work hours wherever feasible to avoid peak heat periods. Additionally, they are required to provide cool drinking water, shaded rest areas, and appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to ensure worker safety. The department has emphasized strict compliance to mitigate health risks caused by soaring temperatures.

Assistant Labour Commissioners (ALCs) have been tasked with monitoring adherence to the advisory and conducting awareness campaigns to educate employers and workers about heatwave precautions. The initiative highlights the department’s commitment to protecting labour welfare during adverse weather conditions.

The Labour Department has urged all stakeholders to cooperate in implementing these measures to ensure a safe working environment for all workers in Jammu and Kashmir.
