Braveheart Havaldar Jhantu Ali Shaikh of 6 PARA SF Makes Supreme Sacrifice in Udhampur Encounter
Udhampur, April 24, 2025: The nation mourns the loss of Havaldar Jhantu Ali Shaikh, a valiant para commando of the Indian Army’s elite 6 PARA Special Forces, who laid down his life during a fierce counter-terror operation in the Berli area of Basantgarh, Udhampur district, Jammu and Kashmir. The encounter, which took place on Thursday, also left two other soldiers injured as security forces engaged with terrorists in a dense, forested region known for its challenging terrain.
Based on specific intelligence inputs, a joint operation involving the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police was launched in the Basantgarh area. The White Knight Corps reported that contact was established with the terrorists, leading to an intense firefight. Havaldar Shaikh sustained grievous injuries during the initial exchange of fire and, despite the best medical efforts, succumbed to his wounds.
The Indian Army paid tribute to the fallen hero, stating, “His indomitable courage and the valour of his team will never be forgotten. We stand in solidarity with the bereaved family in this moment of grief.” Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha also honored Havaldar Shaikh, saying, “I bow to our army braveheart who made the supreme sacrifice for the nation during the anti-terror operation in Udhampur.”
The operation comes just days after a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, which claimed 26 lives, underscoring the persistent security challenges in the region. The encounter in Berli, part of a cordon and search operation, was initiated following reports of terrorist presence in the area, which is a remote, nomadic grazing region approximately three hours from Basantgarh.
