Jammu, April 26, 2025 – The Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital in Jammu has issued an urgent circular directing its staff to remain on high alert and ensure complete readiness to address any emergencies arising from the escalating cross-border tensions in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K). The directive, dated April 25, 2025, comes in the wake of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, which killed 26 people and heightened security concerns across the region.

Signed by the Medical Superintendent of GMC Hospital Jammu, the circular outlines several key measures to bolster the hospital’s preparedness:

  1. Stockpiling Essential Supplies: Store officers and keepers at GMC Hospital are instructed to maintain adequate stocks of emergency medicines and critical equipment to handle any sudden exigencies.
  2. Staff Availability: All hospital staff are advised to restrict unnecessary holidays and remain on duty to ensure uninterrupted and effective patient care during this critical period.
  3. 24/7 Control Room: A round-the-clock control room has been established to coordinate emergency responses. The control room can be reached at the contact numbers 0191-2582355 and 0191-2582356 for urgent requirements or issues.

The circular has been disseminated to key personnel, including the Principal of GMC Jammu, officiating D.M.S. in charge of emergency services, the control room, store officers, section officers, and the hospital notice board, ensuring widespread awareness and compliance.

This move by GMC Hospital reflects the broader state of alertness in J&K following the Pahalgam attack, which targeted tourists in Baisaran Valley and led to a significant exodus of visitors. The attack has also strained India-Pakistan relations, prompting heightened security measures and preparations for potential escalations. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s recent engagement with tourism stakeholders further underscores the region’s efforts to manage the crisis while ensuring safety and readiness for any further developments.

As J&K braces for a special assembly session on April 28 to address the security situation, GMC Hospital’s proactive steps aim to safeguard public health amidst the ongoing tensions.
