Islamabad, May 10, 2025 – Pakistan’s military reported multiple explosions at key airbases in Lahore and Sargodha early Saturday morning, accusing India of launching retaliatory missile and drone strikes. The attacks, part of India’s “Operation Sindoor,” targeted critical military installations, including the Nur Khan Airbase in Rawalpindi, Rafiqui Airbase in Shorkot, and Murid Airbase in Chakwal, with unconfirmed reports of strikes in Sargodha.

According to Pakistan’s military spokesperson, Lt. Gen. Ahmad Sharif Chaudhry, most missiles were intercepted, and Pakistan Air Force (PAF) assets remain intact with no reported casualties. However, social media posts from Lahore residents described intense drone activity, with one user claiming a drone was shot down near their location, and Sargodha’s proximity to Lahore raising concerns.

The strikes follow escalating tensions after a deadly April 22 terrorist attack in Indian-administered Kashmir, which killed 26 tourists and was blamed on Pakistan-based groups. India launched precision strikes on Wednesday targeting alleged terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), prompting Pakistan to retaliate with “Operation Bunyan Marsoos,” targeting Indian airbases in Pathankot, Udhampur, and a missile storage site.

Explosions were also reported in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Sheikhupura, with Pakistan shutting down its airspace to civilian traffic until noon Saturday. Videos circulating on Pakistani media allegedly show airbases engulfed in flames, though authenticity remains unverified.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister convened an emergency meeting of the National Command Authority, overseeing the country’s nuclear arsenal, signaling the gravity of the situation. Both nations have urged restraint, but the tit-for-tat attacks mark a dangerous escalation in the nuclear-armed neighbors’ rivalry, with experts warning of a potential “drone war.”

The international community, including the EU, has called for de-escalation, citing risks to regional stability and civilian safety. As the situation unfolds, the world watches closely, hoping for diplomatic efforts to prevent further conflict.
