Barmer/Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, May 10, 2025 – The district administrations of Barmer and Jaisalmer have been placed on high alert following the recovery of unidentified missile debris in the Gida Pareu area of Barmer on Saturday morning, amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. Authorities have issued urgent directives for residents to remain indoors, with announcements blaring across Jaisalmer and Barmer urging people to stay home and avoid public spaces.

In Barmer, District Collector Tina Dabi issued a stern advisory, declaring a red alert at 10:19 AM. “All residents are ordered to immediately return to their homes. Markets must be closed, and all public movement is to cease with immediate effect. Authorities have been directed to ensure strict enforcement of these orders. This is an urgent notice,” Dabi stated. Police and civil defense teams have been deployed to enforce the lockdown, with sirens sounding across the district to underscore the severity of the situation.

The debris, suspected to be from a missile or drone attack attempted by Pakistan on Friday night, was discovered around 4:42 AM in Barmer’s Gida Pareu area, with additional fragments found within a five-kilometer radius, including near a temple. Local resident Mohan Chowdhary reported hearing loud explosions followed by light and smoke, stating, “We have no fear or terror,” reflecting confidence in the Indian Army’s response. Security personnel have cordoned off the sites, and no locals are permitted near the debris pending investigation by authorized agencies.

In Jaisalmer, similar measures are in place, with markets shuttered and vehicular movement halted. Police vehicles equipped with public address systems are making continuous announcements: “Everything will remain closed. Seeing the current situation, all are expected to stay home, and vehicular movements are also stopped.” Debris from suspected drones was also recovered in Jaisalmer’s Badora village and other areas, including Pokhran, prompting evacuations of nearby hamlets.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma has allocated ₹5 crore each for Barmer, Jaisalmer, Bikaner, and Sri Ganganagar to bolster emergency preparedness. Hospitals across the Jodhpur division are on high alert, with blood banks instructed to maintain adequate stocks. The Border Security Force (BSF) and Indian Air Force have intensified patrolling and surveillance along the 1,070-km India-Pakistan border in Rajasthan, which has been sealed until further notice.

Residents are urged to cooperate with authorities, rely on official information, and avoid spreading rumors. The situation remains tense, with security forces on high alert to prevent further escalation.
