Administrative Council Grants Ownership Rights to West Pakistan and 1965 Displaced Persons
SRINAGAR: In a significant move, the Administrative Council, chaired by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, has granted proprietary rights to West Pakistan Displaced Persons (WPPDs) for state land.
This decision, made in the meeting with Advisor Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, and Principal Secretary Dr. Mandeep K. Bhandari, aims to empower thousands of families across the Jammu region. Following the 2019 reorganization, WPPDs were granted domicile rights by the Government of India.
This decision addresses long-standing demands for ownership rights from these families.Additionally, the Council approved similar rights for Displaced Persons of 1965 concerning state land. The government remains committed to extending benefits to Displaced Persons of 1965, consistent with those provided to Displaced Persons of 1947 and 1971. The Revenue Department will implement safeguards to prevent misuse, particularly unauthorized encroachments on state land.
