Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) has reportedly executed 50 additional Pakistani soldiers held hostage

In a significant escalation of the ongoing conflict in Pakistan’s Balochistan province, the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) has reportedly executed 50 additional Pakistani soldiers held hostage at the train hijack site in Bolan. This brings the total number of killed Pakistani soldiers to over 100, with the BLA claiming that more than 150 hostages remain in their custody. The group also reported suffering casualties during intense clashes today.

The crisis began when BLA militants hijacked the Jaffar Express, a passenger train traveling from Quetta to Peshawar, immobilizing it within a tunnel in the Bolan district. The insurgents, armed with suicide vests, took approximately 450 passengers hostage, including security personnel, and demanded the release of Baloch political prisoners. They threatened to execute hostages if their demands were not met.

Pakistan’s security forces launched a rescue operation involving both air and land assaults. Reports indicate that around 190 hostages have been rescued so far. However, the operation has resulted in significant casualties, with at least 21 hostages and 33 militants killed during the clashes.

The BLA’s actions are part of a broader insurgency in Balochistan, where separatist groups have long sought greater autonomy and control over the region’s resources.
