Big Breaking: Omar Abdullah to Meet PM Modi on J&K Statehood Restoration
New Delhi/Srinagar, Oct 19: In a major political development, National Conference (NC) leader Omar Abdullah is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the long-awaited restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
According to top sources, the Central Government is likely to announce the restoration of statehood to the Union Territory on or before November 10, 2024.
This potential move comes amid heightened political activities in the region, with assembly elections concluded recently & formation of government by NC led by chief minister Omar Abdullah. The restoration of statehood has been a key demand from regional political leaders following the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, which stripped Jammu and Kashmir of its special status and reorganized it into two Union Territories—J&K and Ladakh.
While the BJP leadership has emphasized that the focus is on infrastructure development and peace, the move to restore statehood is seen as a step to bridge political gaps and address local aspirations.
More details are awaited on the meeting’s outcome and the formal announcement from the government.
