BJP MLA Criticizes Farooq Abdullah Mehbooba Mufti: Reactions Spark Debate on Resources and Borders
Jammu, J&K: BJP MLA from Kishtwar, Shagun Parihar, criticized National Conference (NC) chief Farooq Abdullah, questioning his ability to lead Jammu and Kashmir. Parihar stated, “Farooq Abdullah’s mentality amazes me. How will people like him take care of J&K when they don’t prioritize the well-being of those protecting our borders?” She emphasized that the central government has the authority to decide the usage of national resources and highlighted that these should benefit the entire country.
Farooq Abdullah, however, recently focused on national security, stating that Pakistan must cease sponsoring terrorism for any productive dialogue to occur. Abdullah has been vocal against negotiations with Pakistan as long as cross-border violence persists, emphasizing that “terror and talks cannot go hand in hand.” He reiterated that India’s natural resources, including hydroelectric projects, are vital to its energy needs and overall development.
Meanwhile, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti advocated for Jammu and Kashmir to have greater access to the region’s natural resources, such as hydroelectricity, for local benefit. She argued that Jammu and Kashmir often bears the brunt of Indo-Pak tensions and called for reconciliation to address persistent violence. Mufti also criticized policies that restrict local utilization of resources and emphasized the need for diplomatic engagement with Pakistan to resolve ongoing conflicts.
The diverging stances between political leaders underscore the complex debates surrounding resource allocation, national security, and local autonomy in Jammu and Kashmir.
