BJP MLA Mohan Charan Majhi Named Odisha CM: Stakes Claim to Form Government

Bhubaneswar, June 11, 2024 — In a significant political development, BJP MLA Mohan Charan Majhi has been named the Chief Minister of Odisha. Majhi met with Odisha Governor Raghubar Das today to formally stake his claim to form the government.

Majhi, who has been a prominent leader within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Odisha, expressed his readiness to take on the responsibilities of the Chief Minister’s office. Following the meeting with Governor Das at Raj Bhavan, Majhi stated, “I am honored and humbled by the trust placed in me by my party and the people of Odisha. Our priority will be to work towards the development and prosperity of the state.”

Governor Das, after the meeting, acknowledged receiving Majhi’s claim and assured that the constitutional procedures will be followed to facilitate a smooth transition of power.

The BJP’s decision to appoint Majhi as the Chief Minister comes in the wake of the party’s significant performance in the recent state elections, marking a crucial turning point in Odisha’s political landscape. As Majhi prepares to take office, his administration is expected to focus on key issues such as infrastructure development, education, healthcare, and employment generation.

This development is seen as a major stride for the BJP in strengthening its foothold in Odisha, a state traditionally dominated by regional parties.

Further updates on the swearing-in ceremony and cabinet formation are awaited.
