Cabinet sub-committee formed keeping in mind Supreme Court orders on reservation dispute: Omar Abdullah

Srinagar, 23 November 2024 – The government has taken an important step to resolve the dispute and related complaints related to reservation in Jammu and Kashmir by forming a cabinet sub-committee. This sub-committee will include three ministers, who will present their report to the cabinet.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah told in a press conference today that the issue of reservation is not only affecting a section of the society, but it has become a challenge towards ensuring equal justice for all. He said, “It is necessary to ensure that the benefits of reservation reach those who are entitled to it. But at the same time, it is also important that the rights of the youth of the open category are not violated.”

Omar Abdullah clarified that keeping in mind the orders of the Supreme Court, this committee will investigate the problems and complaints related to reservation. He said that working as per the guidelines of the Supreme Court and ensuring their compliance is a priority.

The objective of this committee is to maintain balance and equality in the society, where no section feels that their rights are being taken away. The Chief Minister said, “Our effort is that whatever decision is taken in the matter of reservation, it should be fair and in the interest of all.”

This step has been taken at a time when discontent and apprehensions are being seen among the youth and various sections of the society regarding reservation. The government has assured that the directions of the Supreme Court will be fully followed and the rights of all sections will be protected.

The government will take a final decision on this issue after the report of the Cabinet Sub-Committee. The public and the opposition are considering this initiative as a positive step to resolve the reservation dispute.
