Charak Appeals to Union Tourism Minister to Promote Jammu Division as a Safe & Scenic Tourist Destination

JAMMU : In light of the recent incident in Pahalgam, noted social activist and Chief Functionary of the Nations Development Association (NDA), Mr. Sushil Singh Charak, has formally written to Hon’ble Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Minister of Tourism, Government of India, urging the ministry to spotlight Jammu Division as a “Safe and Secure Tourist Zone.”

Highlighting the peaceful and spiritually rich environment of the Jammu Division, Mr. Charak called for renewed attention and promotion of the region’s diverse tourism offerings. He emphasized that while parts of Jammu & Kashmir have experienced unrest, Jammu Division remains peaceful and welcoming, offering a wide range of religious, ecological, and historical sites suitable for both domestic and international visitors.

“It is imperative to restore tourist confidence in Jammu & Kashmir. By promoting Jammu Division—home to iconic destinations like Vaishno Devi, Patnitop, Bhaderwah, and many others—we can send a strong message of peace, safety, and cultural richness to the world,” said Mr. Charak.

In his letter, Mr. Charak listed 60 major tourist destinations across Jammu Division, including: Spiritual sites.Vaishno Devi, Shivkhori, Machail Mata, Raghunath Temple. Scenic spots: Patnitop, Sanasar, Bhaderwah, Jai Valley.Historical landmarks: Akhnoor Fort, Rajouri Fort, Krimchi Temples. Ecological zones: Mansar Lake, Surinsar Lake, Nandini and Jasrota Wildlife Sanctuaries

The appeal stresses the potential for economic revitalization, employment generation, and regional development through targeted tourism promotion and infrastructure development.

Charak also called for immediate campaigns and initiatives by the Ministry of Tourism to incorporate these destinations into national and international tourism circuits.
