Chaudhary Lal Singh’s strong opposition to Vaishno Devi ropeway project: livelihood of poor in danger
Katra: The controversy over the proposed ropeway project in Vaishno Devi is deepening. Former MP Chaudhary Lal Singh has raised serious objections to the project. He said that such development schemes are proving to be disastrous for the poor.
Chaudhary Lal Singh said, “If development means only making profits and crushing the rights of the poor, then it is not development, but destruction. The government is only pretending in the name of development, while as a result the livelihood of local poor traders and employees is being snatched away.”
Accusing the government, he said that such projects are being made only to benefit the capitalists, ignoring the interests of the local people. Lal Singh made it clear that the government should give priority to the interests of the poor and local people while planning development works.
Concerns of local traders
There is deep concern among local traders and workers about the Vaishno Devi ropeway project. They say that due to this project, the number of devotees coming to Katra may decrease, which will affect their business.
Warning to the government
Chaudhary Lal Singh demanded the government to reconsider such schemes, which harm the rights of the poor. He said, “If the government ignores the interests of the poor, then the protests may intensify.”
This statement has come at a time when discontent is increasing at the local level regarding the Vaishno Devi ropeway project. Now it remains to be seen what steps the government takes on this and how it solves the problems of the local people.
