Srinagar, June 15, 2025: Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo chaired a high-level meeting on Saturday to review the irrigation and flood control initiatives of the Jal Shakti Department (JSD) in Jammu and Kashmir. The meeting focused on ensuring comprehensive irrigation coverage and strengthening flood defenses across the Union Territory.

Dulloo emphasized the need for seamless coordination among the Jal Shakti Department, Agriculture Production Department, and district administrations to maximize the impact of flagship schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY). He stressed delivering “last-mile irrigation” to benefit farmers at the grassroots level. Additionally, he called for accelerated implementation of flood mitigation projects under PMDP-II and robust measures to protect water bodies.

The Chief Secretary reviewed progress on the Tawi Riverfront Development Project, issuing strict directives to complete nallah diversions, construction, beautification, and electromechanical installations by September 30, 2025. Additional Chief Secretary, Jal Shakti Department, Shaleen Kabra, presented a detailed overview of JSD’s efforts in expanding irrigation infrastructure and implementing flood mitigation strategies.

The meeting highlights the administration’s commitment to sustainable water management and flood resilience in the region.
