Jammu, May 15, 2025: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah chaired a productive meeting with the Hoteliers Association at the Civil Secretariat in Jammu today, focusing on revitalizing the tourism sector, a cornerstone of the region’s economy. The discussions centered on addressing challenges faced by the hospitality industry and exploring strategies to promote sustainable, high-value tourism in J&K.

The meeting, attended by senior officials and prominent hoteliers, highlighted the need for enhanced infrastructure, improved waste management, and better tourist facilities to elevate the visitor experience. CM Abdullah emphasized a tourist-centric approach, urging stakeholders to prioritize quality over quantity to position J&K as a premium global destination. “Tourism is the backbone of our economy. We must ensure visitors leave with memorable experiences, encouraging them to return and recommend J&K,” he stated.

Key issues raised by the Hoteliers Association included the need for streamlined regulations, upgraded amenities along tourist routes, and support for eco-friendly initiatives. The Chief Minister assured the association of the government’s commitment to addressing these concerns, including plans to strengthen Tourism Development Authorities and develop master plans for key destinations like Gulmarg and Sonamarg.

This engagement follows Abdullah’s ongoing efforts to bolster J&K’s tourism potential, as seen in his recent pre-budget consultations with stakeholders, including hoteliers, on February 11, 2025. The government is also exploring the revival of the Darbar Move to foster cultural and economic ties between Jammu and Kashmir, which could further benefit the hospitality sector.

The Hoteliers Association expressed optimism about the government’s proactive approach, with representatives pledging to collaborate on initiatives to enhance J&K’s global tourism appeal. The meeting marks a significant step toward inclusive and sustainable growth in the region’s hospitality industry.
