Jammu, Nov 25: The Crime Branch has arrested four individuals, including a former Tehsildar and a retired Girdawar, in connection with a high-profile land-grabbing case. A chargesheet has been filed in the Special Court of Anti-Corruption, Jammu, for judicial determination. The case originated from a written complaint lodged by Smt. Koushalaya Devi, wife of Late Duni Chand, a resident of Village Dangray, Tehsil R.S. Pura, Jammu. The complaint, duly endorsed by the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Jammu, alleged that her late husband, a 1947 displaced person, had been allotted 72 kanals and 4 marlas of land under various khasara numbers in Village Dangray, now part of Suchetgarh, Jammu. The complaint stated that the accused, in connivance with certain revenue officials, had fraudulently transferred and mutated the land in their favor by using a fake adoption deed. This deed falsely claimed that the accused was the adopted son of the complainant and her late husband. The complainant asserted that she never appeared before any revenue official or court for any such mutation or registration.Following the complaint, the Crime Branch conducted a preliminary verification, registered FIR No. 30/2016 under various sections of the RPC and the Prevention of Corruption Act, and initiated a detailed investigation. An experienced Deputy Superintendent of Police led the investigation, establishing charges of cheating, forgery, and criminal conspiracy against eight accused individuals. Of these, four have been arrested, two were granted bail, and two have passed away. The chargesheet against all eight accused has been filed.Senior Superintendent of Police, Crime Branch Jammu, Benam Tosh, confirmed the completion of the investigation and the filing of the chargesheet in the Special Court of Anti-Corruption, Jammu, marking a significant development in the fight against corruption and fraudulent land dealings.
