Crisis in Badhaal Village: Mysterious Deaths Spark Emergency Measures in Rajouri

Rajouri, January 22: The serene village of Badhaal in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district has become the epicenter of a crisis, with 17 members of three families losing their lives under mysterious circumstances over the past one-and-a-half months. The alarming situation has prompted urgent intervention by the administration to prevent further fatalities.

Emergency Measures Ordered
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo convened a high-level meeting with divisional and district officials, health experts, and police authorities to address the escalating crisis. Emphasizing the need for immediate action, Dulloo directed the health and police departments to implement stringent containment measures.

A spokesperson for the administration stated that officials were advised to establish a robust standard operating procedure (SOP) for monitoring the affected population. The chief secretary also ordered the deployment of additional manpower to ensure strict enforcement of guidelines and the isolation of affected families.

Efforts to Contain the Crisis
Health and Medical Education Secretary Syed Abid Rashid Shah confirmed that comprehensive steps had been taken to isolate the families and provide them with essential supplies, including food and water, after thorough testing. Health teams are stationed in the village to monitor any emerging symptoms among the residents.

To further ensure safety, local Public Health Centres and Community Health Centres have been kept on high alert. Exchange of eatables has been strictly prohibited, and affected families have been relocated to monitored facilities.

Investigations Underway
Investigations into the cause of the deaths are being conducted by a special investigation team (SIT) formed by the police, along with an inter-ministerial team dispatched by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. National diagnostic institutions have also taken samples from the village to ascertain the cause of the fatalities.

Dulloo emphasized the importance of continuing the investigations while awaiting toxicology reports. He urged the administration to act swiftly on the findings of the reports to safeguard the lives of the villagers.

Health Scare Intensifies
In a recent development, a 24-year-old resident, Aijaz Ahmad, was hospitalized after his health deteriorated. Ahmad was screened by doctors in the village before being referred to the Government Medical College Associated Hospital in Rajouri for further treatment.
