Devastating Cloudbursts in Himachal Pradesh Leave Seven Dead, 50 Missing
Himachal Pradesh, August 3, 2024 — A series of severe cloudbursts in Himachal Pradesh on Thursday has resulted in the deaths of seven individuals, with approximately 50 more reported missing. The intense rainfall led to significant destruction, washing away numerous houses, bridges, and roads across several districts.
The state emergency operation center reported that the cloudbursts struck the Nirmand, Sainj, and Malana areas in Kullu; Padhar in Mandi; and Rampur in Shimla districts. The Manali-Chandigarh National Highway has suffered extensive damage due to landslides, disrupting travel and emergency responses.
Authorities are working tirelessly to assess the full extent of the damage and coordinate rescue efforts. The situation remains critical as efforts continue to locate those missing and provide relief to affected communities.
