Director Agriculture visits Potato Seed Development Farm Bosain Baramulla

SRINAGAR, AUGUST 14: The Director Agriculture Kashmir, Chowdhury Mohammad Iqbal today visited Potato Seed Multiplication Farm Bosian Baramulla and inspected different blocks of the farm besides interacting with the technical experts and staff of the said farm.

Speaking on the occasion, Director Agriculture said that from the last more than two years the department is vigorously working for the transformation of departmental seed multiplication farms. He said the area is having one of the best suitable agro-climatic conditions for the production of different kinds of vegetable seeds including potato seed.

Director said that the department is endeavouring to ensure that only quality seed reaches the farming community of the region. “We are pursuing a plan to achieve self-reliance in seed production and departmental farms are of pivotal importance in this direction”, he added.

He asked the officers to put in all the efforts so that not only the local potato requirement is fulfilled but potato from Kashmir is supplied to different parts of the country.

Director Agriculture said that the department has strengthened the marketing mechanism of different agriculture crop from the last two years. He asked young agri-preneurs to come forward and take potato cultivation on commercial lines. There is a great scope for value addition of this crop, he added.

He said in the coming days potato would be one of the significant contributors towards the agriculture economy of Jammu & Kashmir. He said the agro-climatic conditions are so conducive that we could produce all the important varieties of potato in the valley.

Director Agriculture appreciated the efforts of the technical staff for their outstanding work in achieving the transformation of these departmental farms on the latest scientific lines.
