Disproportionate Assets Case: More Details Against DySP Assets Booked In The Case

Jammu, June 26: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Jammu has registered a case against a serving Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Chanchal Singh of the Jammu and Kashmir Police for allegedly acquiring assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. This follows a secret verification into allegations against Singh, resulting in the registration of FIR No. 08/2024.

The ACB’s verification revealed that Singh, during his tenure at lucrative positions, allegedly accumulated various movable and immovable properties in his name, as well as in the names of his family members, relatives, and through benami transactions. These assets include residential houses, plots, shops, and business establishments across different districts of Jammu province, and two hotels in Kullu (Manali), Himachal Pradesh. Additionally, substantial bank balances and valuables were reportedly acquired.

Search warrants were obtained from the court, and searches were conducted at the residences and offices of Singh, his family members, and relatives, spanning various districts in Jammu province, Srinagar, and Manali. Incriminating documents and valuables were seized for investigation.

Notably, during the searches at the hotels in Manali, an agreement to sell dated February 25, 2022, was recovered. This agreement, executed between Ved Parkash of Shimla and Rekha Devi, Singh’s wife, detailed the purchase of 12.03 hectares (approximately 240 kanals) of land in Kullu, Manali, for Rs 2.85 crores. An advance payment of Rs 50 lakhs was made, with Rs 25 lakhs paid through cheques and Rs 25 lakhs in cash. Additionally, documents pertaining to benami properties were recovered during a search in Hatli, Kathua.

The ACB noted that searches at various locations are ongoing as the investigation continues. Additionally, according to sources the bureau is monitoring 29 more officers suspected of corrupt practices.
