District Administration Samba Celebrates World Environment Day 2024

The District Administration of Samba, under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Abhishek Sharma, celebrated World Environment Day 2024 with great enthusiasm and commitment to the environment. This year’s theme, “Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience,” was at the heart of the day’s activities.

A massive plantation drive was organized within the premises of the DC Office Samba, symbolizing the district’s dedication to restoring and preserving the environment. The initiative, planned jointly by the Geology & Mining Department and the Forest Department, saw the distribution of various fruit and non-fruit bearing plants to officers, officials, and visitors.

Speaking on the occasion, DC Abhishek Sharma emphasized the importance of extending the plantation efforts to the banks of rivers to enhance biodiversity and combat soil erosion. He made a heartfelt appeal to the general public to actively participate in tree planting activities during the upcoming monsoon season, highlighting the collective responsibility towards environmental conservation.

The event witnessed the active participation of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Samba, Vinay Kumar, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Suresh Sharma, District Mineral Officer (DMO) Mohammad Sayeed, Chief Education Officer (CEO) Kewal Krishan, District Information Officer (DIO), Ashiq Rafiq Malik and other district and sectoral officers.

The celebration of World Environment Day in Samba district stands as a testament to the commitment of the district administration and its officers towards sustainable environmental practices and the promotion of a greener, healthier future for all.
