Four Army personnel, including an officer, and a police officer were martyred during an encounter with heavily armed terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district on Monday. The attack was claimed by ‘Kashmir Tigers’, a faction associated with the Pakistan-backed terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM).
The encounter occurred when troops from the Rashtriya Rifles and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a joint cordon and search operation at Dhari Gote Urarbagi in the Desa forest belt, approximately 55 km from Doda town. The operation started late Monday evening and involved a brief exchange of fire.
During the initial gunfight, the terrorists attempted to flee but were pursued by the troops despite the challenging terrain and dense foliage. This pursuit led to another firefight around 9 pm. Five soldiers were critically injured, and four, including the officer, later succumbed to their injuries.
The ‘Kashmir Tigers’ also claimed responsibility for a recent attack on an Army convoy in Kathua on July 9.
The operation was launched based on input about the presence of terrorists in the area, according to officials. “Additional troops have been moved into the area. Operations are continuing,” White Knight Corps said. Security forces are on high alert in Jammu and Kashmir following a spate of terror attacks at several places in the Jammu region for the past few weeks.
