Pahalgam, July 5, 2025: In a significant step towards promoting sustainable practices during the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, a bottle cage has been installed at the gate of the Langar Site in Chandanwari, a key transit camp along the Pahalgam route. This initiative, announced under the “Eco Alert” campaign, aims to encourage responsible disposal of plastic bottles and reduce environmental impact during the annual pilgrimage.

The bottle cage installation is part of the broader #SwachhYatra and #PlasticFreeYatra campaigns, supported by the Ministry of Jal Shakti’s Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, the Ministry of Rural Development, and the Office of the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir. The initiative urges pilgrims to dispose of plastic bottles properly, preserving the pristine beauty of the region with the slogan, “Drop the bottle, not the beauty!

This eco-conscious move aligns with ongoing efforts to ensure cleanliness and sustainability during the Amarnath Yatra, which has seen over 20,000 pilgrims visit the holy cave shrine in the first two days of the pilgrimage. Authorities, including the Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board, have been lauded for their efforts to enhance pilgrim facilities while prioritizing environmental conservation.

The installation at Chandanwari’s Langar Site is expected to set a precedent for further eco-friendly measures along the Yatra route, ensuring that the spiritual journey remains in harmony with nature. Pilgrims and stakeholders are encouraged to participate actively in keeping the Yatra plastic-free and environmentally sustainable.
