Encounter between army and terrorists along LOC in Rajouri: 2 terrorists killed, huge amount of weapons recovered

Rajouri, Jammu, Sep 9:In the lead-up to the afirst phase of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, two heavily armed terrorists were killed during a fierce gunfight with security forces near the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri district. Officials confirmed that the encounter occurred in the Laam area of the Nowshera sector late on Sunday night, as Army personnel thwarted an infiltration attempt from across the border.With the assembly elections set to take place in three phases—on September 18, September 25, and October 1—security measures have been heightened across the region.According to Lt Col Suneel Bartwal, Army PRO based in Jammu, the operation was conducted jointly by the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police. “We successfully foiled an infiltration bid in the Nowshera sector, following intelligence reports since August 30 that indicated the presence of terrorists across the border,” Bartwal said.He added that ground-based and aerial surveillance systems were employed, while regular patrols ensured close monitoring of all potential infiltration routes. The decisive encounter unfolded around 7:30 p.m. on September 8, when suspicious movements were detected. “An intense firefight ensued throughout the night, with UAVs, night vision cameras, and other equipment used to track the terrorists,” the spokesperson explained.By the morning of September 9, two terrorists were confirmed dead, and a significant cache of arms was recovered, including two AK-47 rifles, an M-4 rifle with sight, and a pistol. Search operations are ongoing to ensure the area is fully secure.The Army’s quick and coordinated response showcased the synergy between the armed forces, police, and intelligence agencies. “We remain vigilant and prepared to counter any future infiltration attempts,” Bartwal asserted.
