Srinagar, April 09: An encounter erupted on Tuesday between security forces and militants in the Chatroo area of Kishtwar district, official sources confirmed.

According to sources, the gunfight began after security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation based on specific intelligence inputs regarding militant presence in the area. As the forces established contact, militants opened fire, triggering a fierce exchange of gunfire.

At the time of filing this report, the encounter was ongoing, with intermittent firing from both sides.

In a related development, a separate gunfight is also underway in Jopher village of Udhampur district.

Further details are awaited as security operations continue in both areas.
