Even if the alliance doesn’t require additional seats, they would take PDP’s support: Dr Farooq Abdullah

At a press conference today with a national channel, Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) chief Dr. Farooq Abdullah made a significant statement regarding his party’s collaboration with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). Despite predictions showing the Congress-NC alliance likely to secure a majority in the ongoing Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, Abdullah expressed openness to accepting support from the PDP. He emphasized that, even if the alliance doesn’t require additional seats, they would take PDP’s support to ensure a collective effort to bring the state out of its current difficulties.

Abdullah highlighted the issues plaguing Jammu and Kashmir, such as rising unemployment, inflation, and the drug menace. He thanked PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti for her reported offer of support, though he clarified he had not personally spoken with her. Abdullah also criticized the BJP, pointing out infrastructural challenges in Jammu and questioning why significant events like the G20 summit were held in Srinagar but not Jammu. He expressed hope for the restoration of statehood and vowed to work for the state’s betterment, stating that he had no personal ambitions for the role of Chief Minister.
