Exam Pattern,Salary, Eligibility and Selection Process of SSC – Common Graduate Level Exam

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts the Combined Graduate Level Examination (CGL) for recruitment to various posts in different departments and ministries of the Government of India. The exam is conducted in four stages – Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3 and Tier 4.

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. Nationality: Candidate must be a citizen of India.
  2. Age Limit: The age limit varies as per the post applied for. Generally, the minimum age limit is 18 years and the maximum age limit is 32 years.
  3. Educational Qualification: The candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university.

Exam Pattern:

  1. Tier 1: The exam consists of 100 multiple-choice questions of 2 marks each. The duration of the exam is 60 minutes. The questions are divided into four sections – General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, and English Comprehension.

  2. Tier 2: The exam consists of four papers – Paper 1: Quantitative Abilities, Paper 2: English Language and Comprehension, Paper 3: Statistics, and Paper 4: General Studies (Finance and Economics). The duration of each paper is 2 hours, and the total marks for each paper are 200.

  3. Tier 3: The exam is a descriptive paper of 100 marks that evaluates the writing skills of the candidates in English or Hindi. The duration of the exam is 60 minutes.

  4. Tier 4: The exam consists of a Computer Proficiency Test (CPT), Skill Test, and Document Verification.

Salary:

The salary of the candidates selected through the SSC CGL exam varies as per the post and the department. The salary can range from Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 1,00,000 per month.

Selection Process:

The selection process of the SSC CGL exam includes four stages – Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3, and Tier 4. Candidates who qualify in Tier 1 are eligible to appear for Tier 2. Candidates who qualify in Tier 2 are eligible to appear for Tier 3. Candidates who qualify in Tier 3 are eligible to appear for Tier 4. The final selection is based on the marks obtained by the candidate in all four tiers.
