It is pertinent to mention that Kathua-Billawar-Badnota-Basantgarh-Baderwah-Kishtwar, if we map the recent terrorist attacks, it highlights an old route of infiltration Used by foreign terrorists (Pakistani/Afghani) during the peak days of terrorism.
On April 28, 2024, a patrolling party of police and Village Defence Guards (VDGs) encountered suspected terrorists in Panara village. One VDG member, Mohammad Sharief, was critically injured and later succumbed to his injuries in this area
Following the incident, then security forces launched extensive operations to neutralize the terrorists, who are believed to be foreign nationals, likely from Pakistan. The operation faced challenges due to the difficult terrain and inclement weather. Six terrorists’ sketches have been released, and authorities believe there are about 10-12 terrorists hiding in the forested areas of Basantgarh.
The attackers are thought to have infiltrated from the Kathua district as there was also terrorist attack in Hiranagar in which two millitants were killed and one soldier was martyred.
The last night terrorist attack indicate that militants are still hiding in this area and finding the opportune time to retaliate.
