Fresh Snowfall Graces Higher Reaches of J&K:Night Temperatures Improve
SRINAGAR – December 12, 2024:
The higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir witnessed fresh snowfall on Thursday, bringing picturesque views to areas like Gulmarg, Sonamarg, Zojila Pass, and Doodpathri. The snowfall, accompanied by a nightlong cloud cover, contributed to an improvement in minimum temperatures across the Kashmir Valley.
According to the Meteorological (MeT) Department, the cloud cover overnight helped push up the temperatures slightly, though the cold conditions persist. Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of minus 0.5 degrees Celsius, while Gulmarg and Pahalgam registered minus 5.2 and minus 4.6 degrees Celsius, respectively.
In the Jammu region, minimum temperatures were relatively milder, with Jammu city recording 6.8 degrees Celsius, Katra 7.4, Batote 5.3, Banihal 3.9, and Bhaderwah 2.9 degrees Celsius.
The MeT Department has forecast no major changes in the weather until December 20, suggesting stable conditions over the next week. Residents and tourists alike are advised to take precautions as winter weather intensifies in the region.
