A full-scale replica of the RMS Titanic is under construction in Sichuan Province, China. The project began in 2014 and is being built as part of a theme park attraction in Daying County. The replica measures 850 feet in length and 92 feet in width, identical to the original Titanic. It will be permanently docked on a reservoir and will not sail.
Over 23,000 tons of steel and several years of work have gone into the project, which is expected to include historically accurate details such as the dining room, door handles, and a functioning steam engine to simulate the experience of being aboard the original ship. The project is estimated to cost around one billion yuan ($150 million), and the replica is intended to attract tourists from around the world as a five-star hotel and museum experience.
