New Delhi: Customs officials at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport have seized gold coins worth ₹7.8 crore from two passengers arriving from Milan.

The accused, both residents of Jammu and Kashmir, were intercepted upon arrival on Wednesday. While their baggage appeared normal during scans, a thorough personal search led to the discovery of gold coins concealed in specially designed waist belts. The coins, weighing approximately 10.092 kg, were wrapped in plastic envelopes for smuggling, officials said.

The customs department, in a post on X, confirmed the seizure and stated that the passengers have been detained for further investigation. Authorities are now probing the source and intended destination of the smuggled gold.
