Govt Cracks Down on Illegal Mining in Budgam: Action Taken Against NKC Projects Pvt Ltd

Srinagar, March 8, 2025: In a decisive move against illegal mineral extraction, the District Mineral Officer (DMO) Budgam has taken strict action against M/s NKC Projects Private Limited for unauthorized mining at Shaliganaga Nalla in Lanilab Basant Wooder, Budgam.
The issue was brought to the attention of the Legislative Assembly today by MLA Khan Sahab, Safiud-Din-Bhat, prompting a swift response from the government. Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary informed the House that the action followed the circulation of a viral video on social media on March 2, 2025, exposing illegal extraction at the site.
On receiving a report from the Directorate of Geology and Mining, the DMO Budgam dispatched a team to investigate the claims. The probe confirmed that M/s NKC Projects Pvt Ltd had deployed men and machinery for unauthorized extraction of approximately 300 MT of Nallah Mukh without obtaining the necessary permits.
In response, authorities issued a formal notice (No. DMO/Bud/DGM/F-106/4558-67, dated March 3, 2025) to the Project Manager of M/s NKC Projects Pvt Ltd, Basecamp Gudsathoo, Budgam, ordering an immediate halt to all illegal mining activities and demanding relevant documentation.
The Deputy CM assured the House that strict measures are being taken to prevent illegal mineral extraction in the region, and violators will face legal consequences. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
