**Heatwave** is defined by the IMD based on temperature deviations from normal:- For plains, a heatwave is declared when the maximum temperature exceeds 40°C and is 4.5°C to 6.4°C above normal.- A severe heatwave is declared when the temperature exceeds the normal by more than 6.4°C.- For hilly regions, the criteria are slightly lower, with a heatwave declared at temperatures exceeding 30°C.
