Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha extended his heartfelt congratulations to the people of Jammu and Kashmir for a historic voter turnout in the first phase of the 2024 Assembly elections. With a remarkable 59% voter participation, this phase marked the highest turnout in the past several elections. The LG expressed his gratitude to the voters, especially first-time voters and women, for their enthusiastic participation in what he termed the “festival of democracy.”

In a significant show of democratic spirit, Jammu and Kashmir witnessed an impressive 59% voter turnout in the first phase of the 2024 Assembly elections. This marked the highest polling percentage in recent memory, reflecting the region’s deepening engagement with democracy. The peaceful conduct of the election, supported by dedicated security personnel and election officials, ensured a smooth process across districts.Notably, regions like Doda, Kishtwar, and Ramban in Jammu, as well as Pulwama, Shopian, and Anantnag in the Kashmir Valley, saw long queues of voters, who enthusiastically exercised their right to vote. The highest voter turnout was recorded in the Inderwal constituency in Kishtwar, with over 72% of the electorate casting their ballots. This election holds particular importance, as it is the first Assembly election in the region after the abrogation of Article 370 and the reorganization of the state into two Union Territories. The large participation of first-time voters and women reflects the growing confidence in the democratic process and counters narratives of divisiveness propagated by adversaries.
