A committee was also formed and the committee advised to ban the private practice of all doctors. Sources in the Health and Medical Education Department say that the department is once again planning to ban the private practice of the departmental heads of medical and dental colleges. At present there are seven Government Medical Colleges and two Dental Colleges in Jammu and Kashmir.

Two new medical colleges are also going to be opened in Udhampur and Handwara. With this the number of medical colleges will go up to nine. Departmental officials believe that banning the private practice of HODs will improve medical and dental colleges.

Presently there are only a few departments where HODs are not doing private practice. Significantly, a few days ago, the department had also issued an order to make HOD on rotation for two years. This order has also been disputed in medical and dental colleges. Many HODs have termed this order as wrong and are demanding departmental officers to withdraw it. But the officials are adamant on implementing the order.
