Illegal Transportation of Khair Wood Foiled by Jammu Police in Akhnoor Area

Continuing their drive against illegal forest produce transportation, the police team at Police Station Akhnoor seized a consignment of Khair wood during routine naka checking at Maira Mandrian.

During the checking, a Maruti vehicle bearing registration number JK0C 2225 was stopped. The vehicle was being driven by Anshu Singh, son of Kamal Singh, accompanied by a co-passenger, Shamsher Lal, son of Kali Dass both residents of Ranjan, Tehsil Bhalwal, District Jammu.

Upon inspection, approximately 3/4 quintal of Khair wood was found loaded in the vehicle. When questioned, neither the driver nor the co-passenger could produce any valid permission or give a satisfactory explanation regarding the transportation of the wood.

The vehicle, along with both individuals, was taken into safe custody at the police station. The Forest Department was informed and further necessary action is being taken under the provisions of the Forest Act.

Police officials have reiterated their commitment to protecting the region’s forest resources and taking strict action against illegal transportation and smuggling activities.
