Jal Shakti Minister Javed Rana Reviews Water Supply Schemes in Pir Panjal, Pushes for Quality and Sustainability

Srinagar, June 17, 2025: Minister for Jal Shakti, Javed Ahmed Rana, conducted a comprehensive review of water supply schemes in the Pir Panjal region today at the Civil Secretariat, emphasizing meticulous planning and regular water quality tests to ensure reliable access to clean drinking water. The meeting, attended by Director Finance, Director Planning, Chief Engineers, Superintending Engineers, and Executive Engineers of the Jal Shakti Department, focused on assessing the current status of water supply infrastructure and identifying areas for improvement.
Expressing concern over delays in ongoing projects, Minister Rana directed officials to fast-track completion while maintaining high-quality workmanship. He underscored the importance of community participation to ensure the sustainability of water supply schemes, particularly under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM). “Community involvement is key to making these initiatives sustainable and effective,” Rana stated, urging officers to draft region-specific improvement plans.
The Minister also emphasized the need for regular water quality testing to safeguard public health and ensure uninterrupted water supply across the region. His directives align with the government’s commitment to enhancing water resource management and promoting equitable access to water in Jammu and Kashmir.
This review follows Rana’s ongoing efforts to prioritize local communities’ interests in water management, as seen in his recent inspections of projects like the Parnai Hydro Power Project in Buffliaz, Surankote. The Jal Shakti Department has been instructed to coordinate closely with local stakeholders to address challenges and expedite progress on all water supply initiatives in the Pir Panjal region.
