Jammu and Kashmir Government Mandates Registration of Bore Wells and Tube Wells
Jammu, January 15: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has issued a directive requiring all bore wells and tube wells across the Kashmir Province to be registered within 15 days. This applies to government departments, semi-government entities, and private individuals.
The Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department, Ground Water Division Srinagar, released a public notice emphasizing the need to regulate groundwater usage in accordance with the Jammu & Kashmir Water Resources Regulatory Authority (JKWRRA) regulations of 2010 and 2011.
Executive Engineer of the PHE Ground Water Division, Srinagar, stated that the registration process is critical to prevent overexploitation of groundwater resources. The notice clarified that the registration must occur within 15 days of constructing wells. However, the department has observed that many entities have failed to comply with this rule.
The department has also warned of strict action against defaulters under the JKWRRA regulations. Furthermore, individuals and entities already registered with the department have been asked to clear any pending dues within the same 15-day timeframe.
This initiative aims to ensure sustainable management of the region’s groundwater resources and prevent long-term ecological harm.
