Jammu Police Clarifies Law and Order Situation in Mattu Village

Jammu, March 22, 2025: A tense situation arose in Mattu Village, under the jurisdiction of Police Station Khour, following the discovery of a calf’s head in an open area near the local cremation ground. Acting swiftly, Jammu Police registered FIR No. 11/2025 and launched an investigation into the matter.
During the probe, it was revealed that a Holstein Friesian cow, owned by Sumit Choudhary, son of Suram Choudhary, a resident of Mattu, had given birth to two stillborn calves. Rajeev Kumar, a trained Maitri worker from Khour Camp, was present to assist in handling the situation.
However, instead of ensuring proper disposal of the carcasses, Sumit Choudhary allegedly discarded them in a plastic bag near the Shamshan Ghat. Stray dogs later dragged and scattered the remains, leading to the public discovery of the calf’s head. A further search of the area led to the recovery of additional remains linked to the case.
Police Investigation and Findings
Authorities have ruled out any slaughter or intentional mutilation, based on veterinary reports and initial inquiries. The police continue their investigation to determine any further lapses in the disposal process.
The police have urged citizens to remain calm and avoid spreading rumors while assuring that all necessary legal actions are being taken.
Further updates awaited as the investigation progresses.
